The Simple Pump can be adjusted to a lower "periscope position" for reduced visibility or aesthetic reasons.
What is Periscope Position?
In periscope position, the pump head sits closer to ground level, making the installation less visible. The handle is removed and stored separately.
When to Use Periscope Position
- Extended periods away from property
- Aesthetic concerns about pump visibility
- Security (less obvious water source)
- Winter storage in extreme climates
Handle Removal Assistance Tool Required
Use the Handle Removal Assistance Tool when adjusting to periscope position. This tool properly positions the pump rod and protects the pump cylinder during storage.
The Handle Removal Assistance Tool ensures:
- Pump rod is secured at the correct height
- Cylinder is protected from rod dropping
- Easy reassembly when returning to normal operation
Adjustment Procedure
To Lower to Periscope Position
- Remove the pump handle from the clevis
- Install the Handle Removal Assistance Tool to secure the pump rod
- Loosen the split flange bolts
- Lower the pump head assembly to the desired height
- Retighten the split flange bolts
- Store the handle in a dry location
To Return to Normal Position
- Loosen the split flange bolts
- Raise the pump head to operating height
- Retighten the split flange bolts
- Remove the Handle Removal Assistance Tool
- Reattach the pump handle to the clevis
Considerations
Pumping Height
- Lower position means more bending to pump
- Consider ergonomics for regular use
- Periscope is best for storage, not daily pumping
Weather Protection
- Cap or cover the pump head opening
- Protect from rain and debris entering
- Consider a weatherproof cover
Drop Pipe Length
- Your drop pipe configuration determines how low you can go
- The system must still reach your water level
- Contact us if unsure about your limits
