How Simple Pump Works
Understanding how our hand well pump provides reliable water access during power outages, off-grid living, and as backup to your electric pump system.

The Basics: What Makes Simple Pump Different
Unlike cheap plastic emergency pumps or electric submersible pumps, Simple Pump is a professional-grade, American-made hand well pump system designed for reliable long-term use.
No Electricity Required
Works completely manually when power is out
Deep Well Capable
Lifts water from static levels up to 325 feet below surface
Works Alongside Electric
Installs with your existing submersible pump
How It's Different
vs. Cheap Plastic Pumps
- Professional-grade materials for decades of use
- Lifts water from static levels up to 325 feet below surface
- DIY-friendly with dealer network support
vs. Electric Submersible Pumps
- Works without electricity or generators
- Installs alongside your existing electric pump
- No ongoing electrical costs
How the Pump Works
Simple Pump uses a proven cylinder and piston system with multiple operation methods and configuration options to fit any well and user preference.
1. The Pumping Method
Simple Pump offers two primary pumping methods that can be easily switched between, giving you flexibility for any situation. Both methods use the same pump head and cylinder system.
Easy Method Switching
Convert from manual to motorized operation in minutes by simply swapping the top mechanism. Minimal tools are required for most configurations.
- Manual backup always available
- Same pump head and cylinder

Manual Hand Pumping
Traditional hand operation for reliable water access
Key Components:
- Top pump rod
- Pump lever
- Lever bracket
- Lever link arm
- Clevis
- Shims
Benefits:
- No power required
- Silent operation
- Immediate availability
- Unlimited runtime

Motorized Operation
12V or 24V motor system for automated pumping
Key Components:
- Top pump rod
- Linear Bearing Link Drive (LBLD)
- Motor unit
- Control system
Benefits:
- Automated operation
- Battery or solar powered
- Manual backup available
- Programmable cycles
2. The Pump Head
The universal Simple Pump Head is compatible with all pumping methods and cylinder types. Its modular design allows for various outlet configurations and mounting options.
Outlet Connection Options
- 3/4" hose nipple
- 3/4" NPT threading
- 90-degree hose spout
- 3/4" hose nipple with One-way Check Valve / Gauge Assembly
*The check valve/gauge assembly enables direct connection to pressure tanks for normal faucet operation.

Standard Pump Head
Universal design for most installations
- Compatible with all pumping methods
- Multiple outlet options
- Durable construction
Double Height Pump Head
For shallow or sunken wells
- Extended height design
- Improved leverage
- Shallow well optimization
Heavy Duty Pump Head
For high-volume applications
- Reinforced construction
- Higher output capacity
- Commercial grade components
3. Well Cap and Mounting Options

Well Cap
Standard aluminum well cap for 2" to 8" casing diameters with integrated pump mounting and sealed connections.

Pedestal Adapter
Aluminum mounting plate system for hand-dug wells and non-standard openings, compatible with submersible pumps.

Well Adapter
Versatile mounting solution for walls, tanks, or custom installations with modular component design.
Simple Pump accommodates a wide range of well configurations with compatible casing diameters from 2" to 8". The split flange system ensures secure mounting for any installation.
Universal Compatibility
- 2" to 8" casing diameter range
- Split flange system on all installations
- Compatible with submersible pumps (4"+ casing)
Top Drop Pipe Configuration
With Weep Hole (Deep Wells)
- Freeze protection
- Deep well applications
- Prevents pipe damage
Without Weep Hole (Shallow Wells)
- Maintains suction
- Shallow well systems
- Maximum efficiency
4. Drop Pipe Options
Drop pipes connect the surface pump head to the downhole cylinder, available in multiple lengths to accommodate any well depth.
Available Lengths
Multiple pipes can be connected to reach any depth configuration

Deep Well Configuration
- High-pressure applications
- Modular pipe connections
- Integrated lift rod system
Shallow Well Configuration
- Simplified installation
- Lower pressure requirements
- Cost-effective solution
5. Pump Cylinder Options
Choose from four cylinder options designed for different well depths and flow requirements. All cylinders are made from lead-free stainless steel and compatible with manual, motor, or solar operation.
Key Considerations
- Max lift = water level + vertical rise + pressure equivalent
- 1 PSI ≈ 2.31 feet of head pressure
- Deep wells require weep hole for freeze protection

Four different pump cylinder types showing size and configuration differences
Cylinder Specifications
100CA
Deep WellBest for deepest installations; requires more strokes per gallon
125CA
Deep WellBalanced between lift and volume per stroke
200CA
Deep WellDelivers the most volume per stroke; ideal for shallower deep wells
PHA-2-S
Shallow WellDecreases approx. 1 foot per 900 ft elevation gain; not freeze-proof
Special Notes
Deep Well Cylinders (100CA, 125CA, 200CA)
- Use Top Drop Pipe with weep hole
- Freeze-proof design
- Lead-free stainless steel construction
Shallow Well Cylinder (PHA-2-S)
- Not compatible with weep hole
- Not freeze-proof
- Altitude affects maximum lift
6. Optional Motor & Solar Upgrades
Motor Option
Add a 12V or 24V motor for automatic operation while maintaining manual backup capability.
- Battery or solar powered
- Manual backup always available
Solar Power Kit
Solar panels with MPPT charge controller for off-grid operation. Batteries customer-provided.
- 740W solar panels included
- No grid connection needed
