Understanding Casing Measurements
ID vs. OD
Inside Diameter (ID): The space inside the casing - what you measure across the opening.
Outside Diameter (OD): The outer dimension - important for well cap fitting.
Example: "6-inch" Casing
- Nominal size: 6"
- Actual ID: Approximately 6"
- Actual OD: Approximately 6.625"
- Well cap specified for OD
Measuring Your Casing
Method 1: Direct ID measurement
- Measure across the inside opening
- Record in inches
Method 2: Circumference to OD
- Wrap tape around outside of casing
- Divide circumference by 3.14
- Result is outside diameter

For installing Simple Pump alongside a submersible:

How to Provide Your Casing Size
When requesting a quote:
- Measure inside diameter if possible
- Note the material (PVC, steel, other)
- Check for any well tag with specifications
- Mention if pitless adapter is present
If unsure, provide both ID and OD measurements and we'll specify the correct components.
